our community
The Church of the Advent Hope
is a multi-ethnic and diverse Christian community comprised of
individuals that seek to love God, each other and the greater community
of New York City. Our church is a part of a worldwide community of Seventh-day
Adventists.
We share a love for Jesus and
a commitment to demonstrating and
spreading the good news of His transforming love to our neighborhoods,
the city of New York, and the world.
We warmly welcome all, and
invite you to join us in our journey of learning, worshiping, serving,
and growing.
our beliefs
Simply
put, we believe that Jesus is "the life, the truth, the way." We
believe his life, his teachings, his death, and resurrection are more
relevant than
ever for our lives, our society, and our world. (A more complete
explanation of our beliefs can be found here.)
our values
This belief leads us to
value:
Authenticity - Recognizing
our own brokenness, we do not pretend to be more than we are and accept
others for who they are.
Community - We realize that
we are not made for isolation, but relationship.
Conversation
- We recognize the limit of our own finite perspective and seek to
listen, to share, to understand and to learn from each other.
Wholeness - We seek
restoration and balance of body, mind, and spirit.
Service - We look for
opportunities to tangibly live out our faith by serving one another and
those in need.
Rest - We remind ourselves
that our identity and worth is not found in what we produce, but in our
relationship with God.
Hope - Although life is full
of challenges, we recognize that God has the future in his control.
Justice - Recognizing that
God is at work outside our own community, we seek to join him in what
he is doing in the world.
our vision
We
envision the transformation of individuals, our neighborhoods, the city
of New York, and ultimately, the world through the sharing of and
living out the good news of Jesus. We believe this can be done by
maintaining three crucial relationships--a vibrant "upward"
connection
to God, an "inward" connection to each other as a community, and
an
"outward" connection to the world--and seek to do so
individually and
as well as a community.
